The Forecast - January 2009

New Moon Review

You are what your deep, driving desire is. As your desire is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny.
Christmas is over. The crackers are pulled. And in the heady backwash of the mid-seasonal “Out Breath”, one looks for as many pearls of wisdom as one can get. At this time of year, we search for guidance. At this time of year, we seek to resolve. And at this time of year we grapple with where we have come from and where we are likely to be in the hope of seeing a little more clearly the road ahead…. The above neat little gem from the treasure trove of The Upanishads kind of sums it up nicely- wake up, get real and come to terms with the fact that you, in fact, are already in charge of the program!

With planetary forces hurtling toward the Cosmic Quickening that is 2012, those prepped for transition recognize the signs. When the Sun and Moon conjoin with Pluto this month in Capricorn, smart travelers pass go by achieving mastery over their desires. Pluto is connected to profound and usually unconscious forces that unwittingly shape our lives. Capricorn is all about mastery of said things. Combined, they suggest that the buck is stopping here. Look within, Oh Student of The Deep, and gasp with both horror and humble awe as you recognize The Cold Hard Truth that is indeed your own deep and driving desire.

2009 sounds like “New Paradigm”, and with this spirit in mind, the year begins. Capricorn concerns itself with achievement, and making real that which was previously just intent. This New Moon is emboldened by the added oomph of Mars and Pluto in the early degrees of Capricorn, making conditions just right for the focus of intent. If magic is your medicine, then this New Moon is for you. Late December 27th or 28th is THE optimum opportunity for making formal your contract with your Self. What is set in motion cannot be undone, so choose wisely based on courage and love. Mars in Capricorn signifies masterful intent. Together with Pluto, everything can be achieved. Use the Force lightly, and it can carry you far.

The overall emphasis this month concerns matters of a collective nature. How far can you go before coming to terms with the fact that every move you make is now as a citizen of the global village? Act to improve your patch, yet with worldwide best-intent. As Jupiter blazes into Aquarius on January 6th, the time for collective expansion is begun. 2009 and 2010 offer peak opportunities for bold new visions. Put yours on the table, and then get to work. Watch out for the Full Moon period from the 10th through to 13th as the Moon opposes most planets in the sky. Tempers fray and emotions swell. It’s all part of our species unfolding. Beware also that Mercury turns retrograde from the 11th through to the 31st. Factor in the unexpected and breathe extra deep when making travel plans. Delays are sent to try us, and utter frustration is just a sign that you have failed to adapt to the shifting status-quo. Practice makes perfect and the evolved soul senses when to let go. Enjoy!

Aries:

These are the days of which dreams are made. When Action-Icon Mars teams up with Uber-Influential Pluto, the cards are stacked firmly in Aries favour. This is a planetary link-up across octave-lines, extending Aries range and intensity. Both planets favour getting the job done. What is more, this benefic exchange occurs in Capricorn, sign of Mars’ exaltation. Courage and fortitude merge with foresight and discipline for especially well-structured results. Even if you are lazing your days away - sipping tequilas in the sunrise - now is the month to organize your advance. Make plans early in the year for total assaults later on. Feel the power of this auspicious time and harness potent strategic energies. January is the premium month of 2009 for Aries to finish anything.

Taurus:

Ever the practical one, you see the sense in getting on with things. Hopefully, you have indulged to elegant sufficiency, and now feel refreshed and ready to move on. The focus of planets in the “Capitalize-On-It” sign of Capricorn enhance Taurean initiatives to have, possess and own. Let January be a time for renewed vigour in the structural department as you “cap-off” the past 12 months of Earth sign focus. Portents on the horizon point to change, so embrace the uber-practical influence of Capricorn days to secure what is rightfully yours. Your ruler Venus gets caught canoodling with Neptune as this lunar month begins. What fantasy have you concocted, and is it at all realizable? Creative Cows benefit most from the bohemian milieu, but always vigilant Saturn says make it practical. Visions of a more beautiful world can be implemented, but certain romantic notions need to be adjusted before they make mischief. All that glitters=not gold.

Gemini:

There is a whiff of something wonderful on the cosmic breezes, as the month of January points to a shift in the global agenda. Gemini is poised to make the best of this, with your healthy sense of curiosity and willingness to become the very essence of ebb and flow. While the flavour of the month rests with practical achievement, bide your time until after the 6th. As Jupiter triumphs into Aquarius, you begin to see the signs that something life-affirming is afoot. Your job is to carry messages near and far. Keep your ears to the ground and eyes to the smoke stack as you search the airwaves for communiqués from the gods. As new paradigms emerge, be the first to read the winds of change and share the information you have gleaned. The first third of this year points to surprising new insights. Be the newshound that you are by tuning in, finding out, and being the first to speak it.

Cancer:

Your challenge has begun. Mars and Pluto in the form of obstacles reveal themselves to you. It’s time to face up to Facing Up. The usual Cancerian mode is to try and tackle everything side-ways. Making decisions surreptitiously is a Cancerian art. By avoiding hurt emotions and direct logic, Cancerians can befuddle as often as they resolve. Now the enemy is apparent, and of course, it is within. Challenges in the form of other folk are in fact mirrors of the challenges you face deep inside. This month, “carp the diem” and get on with doing your thing. Upsets at the start of the month signal opportunities to increase your expertise. Employ devastating empathy and laser-like intuitive beams to cut through the crap of All and Sundry. Then clearly make your intentions known. Cancer cannot revert to hermit-mode in the years ahead until the necessary transformations have been done. Sulking, guilting and being ‘too-sensitive” are strategies appropriate to days gone by. Now the time has come to demonstrate your superior inner functions by embracing the avatar of Emotional Intelligence that you actually are.

Leo:

Having learnt the art of cooperative living, Leo gets to extend the empire as Jupiter reaches your opposite sign, Aquarius. The passage of Jupiter opposite One’s Sun is usually a joyous affair, and those of you born with well placed Jupiters (Leos not born 1984, 72, 60, 48 or 36) can enjoy the popularity and enhancement of social cache that is about to ensue. Dress regal to be recognized as such. Be prepared to add scintillating experiences of otherness to your list of regular pastimes. 2008 was all about Him, Her and Them. Now 2009 is about Us. Take the opportunity to explore life-enhancing opportunities proffered by types you may not usually consider interesting (or worthy). The coming months puts the focus on what you can do for them, so beat the rush and become already benevolence personified. Enjoy January for its’ festive opportunities. An eclipse coming around January 26th puts the cat among the pigeons. When in Rome, get weird.

Virgo:

The freeze on useful activity continues. Virgo can be averse to this time of year as it gets in the way of discipline and routine. Secretly you crave the rigour of a schedule, even though your louche side also requires a much needed workout. Virgo is covertly seductive, and needs regular physical outlets. Keep the pump primed and home fires burning by exercising your love of life. As Saturn continues to hover around the same point in the sky, you know that resistance is useless. Halt and retread the boards while you wait for your next missive to arrive. Because planets are clustered in Capricorn does not mean you must perfect each and every task. Practical news comes in bite-sized parcels but the “retrogradation” of Mercury through the second half of the month means it may not be the time to act. Allow chaos and bad eating habits to flourish before dying out. Sometimes we need to actually know what undisciplined means, rather than just worrying about what it might be like. The loosening of The Grip will not last long. For those Virgoans more adept at letting go, then January is the perfect month for extra-curricular activity. Become a master of earthy indulgence and sensuality as you wait for the skies to lift.

Libra:

It is a little known secret that Librans excel at taking action and embarking upon a path. You guys are masters of diplomacy and outcome-optimization. Your problem lies in pretending to yourself and other people that when it comes to finding a solution, you “really don’t mind….” Your symbol is The Scales and you are not endowed with a massive sense of justice for nothing. The time to offer powerful, decisive insights has begun. Capricorn and Plutonian energies are all about consolidation and this is exactly what the Libran scene-setter needs – clandestine forces pushing people toward confrontation with the truth. Once the fracas dies down, you get to emerge from behind designer doors and demonstrate your superior sense of objectivity and access to wise counsel. Your ability to be empowered by your own impartiality becomes the major theme of your life. Others will thank you for it. Mars and Pluto in challenge oriented Capricorn mean that Libran diplomacy is essential if we are to restore a workable status-quo. Problems with other people are so often simply problems with ourselves. Do NOT settle for mild-mannered second best, being most popular or the least confrontational. Choose or Be Damned.

Scorpio:

Mmmmm, isn’t it nice to be able to settle in for a 14 year stint of Power-Play? Cosmic forces get Scorpio-Juice on the rise as issues of power, control, opportunity and enhancement become problems of everyday parlance. The time to exercise superior strategy and cunning restraint has begun. You hop to it like a private school bay at a bondage party. With both your rulers Mars and Pluto sidling up in Capricorn, the start of January is ripe to launch your silent but deadly Scorpio plan. Choose your target and move with stealth toward the object of your desire. Seek mutual enhancement and the bliss of Oneness for total satisfaction. On the plus side- you’re likely to get exactly what you ask for. On the down- morbid, rancorous and unhealthy desires/obsessions come back viciously to haunt you. The sign of Capricorn is all about getting our just deserts. Entertain dark secrets and jealous whims at your own peril. Unconsciousness is sooooo last century. Your best bet is ruthless honesty- firstly with yourself, and if possible, with other people. The passage of Mars and Pluto in Capricorn is like heaven on a stick. Use your power wisely to proceed with maximum efficiency.

Sagittarius:

So, 2008 may not have been all that it was cracked up to be- but fear not, for 2009 has just begun. Future-dreaming is once more the flavour of the month. In 08, your ruler Jupiter labored through the “Deal-With-It” sign of Capricorn. Now as he bedazzles his way into the far more future-oriented sign of Aquarius, you can go back to the study of distant horizons. How far can you go and what else is out there? 2009 favours vision - the perennial Sagittarian question returns. Think big, bold and brassy to be in vogue. Take “Possibly” for an answer, and look forward to better things. Intuitive insight married to structural detail works out every time. Go forth Oh Fruitful One, and multiply your realities. Everything in the sky right now suggests painting The Big Picture. Planetary focus is on issues of a collective nature. Folks who think in ways that are both long-term and aspirational hold the key. Social reform and greater personal meaning are no longer dreary subjects from a by-gone, psychedelic age. They are back on the menu as essential ingredients for a tasty global soup.

Capricorn:

As if you lot need an astrologer to tell you that your time has come. Rumblings in the undergrowth since early 2008 have been lately picking up speed, and tuned in Capricorns realize that the time to see ambitions manifest has never been more ripe. Those clever souls born just before Christmas Day are power-packed to remake and remold their lives. If your world is in a whirl, simply let go of the useless and unnecessary. Hold your breath and keep your faith. You are in line for even better things. All of you, however, can sense the potential carried in the winds. Planets of power, passion and intensity join the New Moon in your sign to make 2009 a year for maximum goal manifestation. January is all about making it happen, even if you can only at this stage make it happen in your mind. With your ruler going retrograde in results-friendly Virgo, it is simply a matter of checking the fine print as well as details. Delays in January may simply mean that something as-yet-unseen and even better is on the way. Use spare time to double check, and put extra imagination into manifesting desired results. When not sealing deals and settling on consortiums, use the down time to hum an appropriate Midnight Oil tune- Oh-whoo, The Power and The Passion.. Oh-whoo, the temper of the times…

Aquarius:

Has anyone ever told you how clever you really are? Aquarius is the sign most likely to grasp solutions to humanitarian and political problems. As those near and dear to you know, you were already planning ways to solve impending world crises whilst everyone else was worrying about who killed JR. Always ahead of the pack, you smelt the coffee way before carbon off-loading ever became de riguer. Hybrid engines? Bah! You lot had already conceived a hybrid species that would replace humankind years before climate change made reform a survival necessity. As Jupiter segues first through Aquarius and next year Pisces, the progressive and forward thinking ideals of recent years become popular concerns. Go forth and share your personal vision of planetary equanimity. Your ability to read and then decipher the potential of the zeitgeist has never been better received. Group consciousness is this season’s latest IT thing. While you may have a little work to do sorting out your emotional life, when it comes to social planning you are way ahead of the game. From January 6th, 12 whole months of pro-active proselytizing begins. The time to expand is here. While some of you may be rattled by the current face off between Saturn and Uranus in the sky, Jupiter offers encouragement and allows you to implement the more progressive of your dreams.

Pisces:

The heat is off, my fishy friend, and now you can relax a bit to swim. Turgid energies in mutable signs have made the last two years a little, shall we say- “trying”. While it would be false to say that you are entirely through, it would be fair to say that at least you get some reprieve. January is the ideal month for Pisces to get what they secretly need. Unbeknown to most, and sometimes even your self, Pisces craves isolation, seclusion and the opportunity to filter out toxins ingested in the maddening flow. Schedule in some much needed you time, and try to dialogue with the more transcendental side that dwells within. At the same time, Pisces also needs pleasure, and January of course provides ample opportunity to indulge in just that. Venus and Neptune, your favourite friends, join up under the rays of the New Moon. This cosmic blend suggests heightened sensitivity, a shaman-like view, uber-creativity and the chance for a romantic interlude. Trouble is, the planet of Fact (a.k.a. Saturn) sticks his nose in the pot and suggests that adjustments will have to be made. If seized by feverish inspiration in the dark of night, perhaps you might “Phone-A-Friend”? A reality check might be all you need to manifest correctly the vision looming before your eyes.
