The Gemini Solar Eclipse

June 10-11th 2021

Wondering what is a solar eclipse?

It’s a regular cycle coinciding with a New Moon where the Moon in its orbit around the Earth passes across the face of the Sun. These times have long been considered quintessential from a spiritual point of view.

Under a New Moon, we can set an intention for what we want to achieve. Every New Moon is a good time to pause and reflect. Some like to mark the occasion with a personal ritual. Others do so by taking time out.

Astrologically speaking, eclipses follow a 19 year pattern which connects it to a much larger series of cycles called Saros cycles. These are important for the evolution of consciousness. It also connects to the lunar eclipse Full Moon which happened two weeks before.

The Influence of The Twins

The Gemini New Moon around June 10/11th is also a solar eclipse, with the body of the Moon obscuring for a short time the light of the Sun. Because the Luminaries connect across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, this eclipse puts a focus on all things “Twin”.

Gemini and Sagittarius are signs of learning and inspiration. More specifically, Gemini is a mutable Air sign and relates to all things mentally oriented. Think communications, analysis and potential misinformation through Double-Dutch.

The emphasis is also on social interactions. Are you turning up and doing your part to fulfil your social obligations? Do you need to change your game, become more informed or put some effort in to super-charge yours?

For all of us the Gemini Solar Eclipse is a major opportunity to connect apparently disparate elements. At the highest level, this means experiencing synthesis and a sense of wholeness by merging the two hemispheres of the brain. Gemini is the sign of mental processes. This eclipse gives us the chance to connect left and right brain functions so that we perceive through synthesis – rather than separation.

Finding points of contact rather than the difference is a distinguishing feature of the evolved mind.

Whilst this may sound abstract it is actually the state of mind experienced when in deep mediation and is mostly likely to embodied by what it means to achieve “Enlightenment”. Making links between apparently divergent ideas, seeing the whole before we seperate into parts and being able to sit with uncomfortable feelings without being overwhelmed are all hallmarks of the enlightened individual.

This eclipse invites us to connect our intuition with our capacity for logic, and in so doing build those neural bridges that help us more easily and successfully navigate this world. Pause and reflect under this Gemini New Moon to find ways of building more enriching connections in your world.

How Does The Eclipse Impact You?

While all of us can tap into the eclipse energy, some of us will be more influenced than others. Check your chart for major planets or points at 19 degrees of any Mutable sign (which means Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces).

If you have an important contact there (like Sun, Moon or Ascendant) then this eclipse might usher in a period of change for you that will have strong resemblance to events happening 19 years ago.

Eclipses come in seasons and have a 19 year cycle. To understand what might happen from an astrological point of view you are well-advised to look backwards. When cycles repeat they carry similar tones and this can help to understand the impact and meaning of any astrological event.

One interpretation of this eclipse season says – “A very unusual series involving sudden flashes of ideas that seem to have a psychic or unconscious flavour to them. Hunches, visions, prophetic dreams that can be acted upon. A truly creative series which should leave the individual enriched.” Thanks for the reference Universal Astrology

So if you feel this is you, then think back to May/June 2002 for the dominant pattern. What were you doing then and why? How did it turn out? Although the impact of eclipses are wildly unpredictable it is still possible to decipher an underlying meaning or insight to be learned.

Solar Eclipses are like seed-points for the entire planet each year. They bring spiritual impulses that impact how we see ourselves and the world around us. Eclipses are also called ‘destiny portals’ and can bring life changing shifts. However, this eclipse also coincides in conjunction to retrograde Mercury, which implies impulsive acts should be avoided wherever possible.

If you are on the verge of making any major decisions then it might be wise to wait a few more weeks if possible (until end of June) – although in the real world this is not always doable. Trust your instincts to guide you toward the best choice. We always know at a deep gut level what our best choice is, even if it’s not we want it to be!
