Discover the meaning of your Moon Sign. Learn how understanding your Capricorn Moon will help you know what you need.

Born under a Capricorn Moon, you need to face life realistically. You are a pragmatist at heart and want to live within the limits of what you believe is currently possible. From this grounded perspective, you are able to set goals and eventually achieve much more.

Growing up, it is likely you were taught to be responsible, serious and measured in your responses. Your family, but in particular your mother, probably had a no-nonsense, hardworking approach to life. You have inherited a work ethic that will guide much of what you do. You need challenges to realize your capabilities.

Capricorn is an Earth sign. This means you are concerned with what is tangible and practical. It is also known as a Cardinal sign. This shows you have a need to take action. When practicality and activity combine, you feel an innate need to make the most of whatever resources are available to you.

You are probably to some degree serious and responsible by nature. You need to know that you are doing what is expected of you by others. You want to do your best.

Responsibility has probably been a theme all your life. Perhaps you had to step into a position of responsibility early on, or had strong lessons from your parents about the need to live up to certain expectations? However it is, you need to show what you are capable of.

With a Capricorn Moon you may feel a deep sense of duty and will look for ways to support others. You might find that you have always been drawn to situations that allow you to demonstrate your capacity for accepting responsibility.

You need to assist and nurture others in practical ways. For this reason, you have probably always been seen as “the capable one” in your family or group of friends. The person who can be relied on to find a solution to whatever problem presents.

All this pragmatism is a source of strength. It gives you a degree of stability which helps you adapt to life’s ebbs and flows. You need to show how resilient and resourceful you are.

For those you hold near and dear, you can be consistent and reliable. You follow through on what you say you will do, and will value the same level of reliability in return. You need to be appreciated for your efforts and recognized for your common sense.

On the down side however, your pragmatic approach to emotions can mean you seem at times cold and unavailable. You might appear to be  more concerned with getting to the bottom line or sorting things out than you are with letting others feel what they need to feel. You need to remember that not everyone has the same degree of emotional fortitude as you do.

In terms of relationships you may be more circumspect. While you probably have a huge heart, you do not give it away easily. You need time to get to know others and work out who they are. It is important to understand how serious or worthwhile any involvement might be before you become overly invested.

Whilst to others this may seem calculating, for you it is just a realistic assessment of the fact that emotional ties can be burdensome. You need to take your feelings seriously, which can involve assessing exactly where a situation is taking you, and if that is where you want to be.

With the Capricorn Moon you are likely to value tradition, status, and social position. You respond best to people and situations that demonstrate the same appreciation for longevity and persistence as you do.

You will feel most secure when you have solid foundations to rely on. To this end you may be conservative, with strong ambitions for yourself based on recognition and accomplishment. Unless other factors in your birthchart dominate you probably err of the side of caution.

You need to achieve the goals you set for yourself. Achievements carry powerful emotional overtones for you. Because you feel an inner need to live up to being the best that you can be you can be hard on yourself.

You probably have a need to prove yourself ‘out there’ in the world. Material success becomes a concrete example of your inner values, demonstrating your aptitude for responsibility and commitment.

This does not, however, always mean you need to achieve on a professional or public level.  You might be less concerned with worldly success and more concerned with doing the best you can personally. Being a good person might be your foremost responsibility.

You are likely to have high standards for personal behaviour, with a profound sense of integrity and authenticity. Whether your focus is material or spiritual, you will probably be committed to making sure that you achieve the things that you expect of yourself.

If other features in your birth chart imply more unconventional qualities, you may struggle with the need to fulfill obligations and the need to be free. Or perhaps you grew up in a family with high expectations for you that do not match what you truly want to do with your life? If this is the case you need to recognize the difference between what you want for yourself and what others may expect. You may need to set yourself free from the burden of guilt.

Just remember that your innate capacity to achieve and demonstrate responsibility can be expressed in many different ways. As long as you live up to your own expectations in terms of what responsibility means to you, you will feel at peace. You do not need to live up to others expectations. You need to be yourself

You are likely to be highly self-sufficient, but need to remember that sometimes it’s ok to admit you need help.  Strong emotional foundations are created by sharing your strengths as well as weaknesses. You are no doubt very capable, but need to be mindful of a tendency to isolate yourself upon your own mountaintop of duty and responsibility.

You could have a tendency to expect that no one else will be as thorough as you are. This can lead you to taking on far more than you need to. You might try to “do”others jobs for them because you tell yourself you are the only one who will do it properly. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy that can lead you down the path of disappointment.

Try to realize that your strengths and capabilities have been earned through a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice, yet only count for something if you can share them with others. In sharing responsibilities, you achieve the position of respect that you so naturally deserve. In letting others demonstrate their capabilities and endurance, you help build a fertile platform for future growth.

With the Capricorn Moon, you are also likely to be very aware of how you appear publicly. You value reputation and protocols, and so, you will avoid doing anything publicly that may diminish you in the eyes of others.

Because you recognize the value of a good reputation, you will strive to appear capable, contained and in-charge. Whilst this is sensible, it may mean you set such high standards of achievement for yourself that you expect to be able to master whatever you attempt almost as soon as you begin. Afraid to fail you don’t begin, which limits your success.

Rather than learning through a process of trial and error, you will stop yourself doing things unless you are immediately competent. It is important that you recognize the need for learning or apprenticeship along the road to mastery. Showing others your vulnerabilities will not hurt you as much as you fear, and can in fact help them to appreciate your achievements more through seeing your efforts and perseverance.

Finally, because the Moon represents the genetic or emotional framework through which we view experiences and learn about the world, there may be a tendency to ‘get stuck’ in the past. In this sense, unconscious fears, limitations and restrictions may prevent you from living in the here and now.

Old habits and memories can take over. Fear may plague you and you may keep others at a distance so they never know how much you are struggling.

Learning to let go of the past and share your vulnerabilities is essential.  This will help dissolve any old and unwanted emotional patterns that prevent you from finding happiness.

Because you are used to demonstrating fortitude and resilience, you may find it hard to soften and let others in. But when you share your insecurities and doubts you allow others to support you in their turn. That way you build a solid foundation based on mutually rewarding relationships and a realistic approach to achieving your long term goals.

“Yes, the strong gets more, While the weak ones fade. Empty pockets don’t ever make the grade. Mama may have, Papa may have, But God bless the child that’s got his own. That’s got his own.” Billie Holiday – Moon in Capricorn (with Arthur Herzog Jnr)
