Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine in the world.

 

Tracing its origins to ancient India, Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health and wellness that seeks to balance body, mind and soul.

 

The word Ayurveda means “Science of Life” and reflects the simple idea that the laws which govern nature and the cosmos also operate within humans.

 

This means every aspect of daily life can contribute to overall health.

 

Conversely, this also means that we can become unbalanced when we do not follow a lifestyle that is best suited to us

 

 

 

We Are Each Unique

The jewel of Ayurveda is its’ recognition that every person is an individual, and every individual has their own path to optimal health.

To understand what this path looks like for you, you need to understand your constitution or body type.

Contemporary medicine is starting to come to the same conclusion, as we recognize that there is no such thing as one diet, exercise or lifestyle choice that is best for all.

Knowing your constitution can be of great benefit to you all your life as you are then able to adapt your wellness choices to align with your individual temperament – leading to good health.

A great example of this is the raw food diet. Some of us can do quite well eating mostly uncooked plant matter. But many of us cannot.

It is entirely possible that the ancient physicians of India recognized the role and importance of the human microbiome, thousand of years before it was discovered in the West

Recent developments in Western medicine are confirming what Ayurveda has known all along. Every system in your body is affected by what you eat.

Through observing subtle forces in the natural world, Ayurvedic physicians developed a profound system of medicine based on thousands of years of practical application.

Ayurvedic scholars were the first to conduct detailed studies of anatomy, perform complex surgeries and understand the mechanics of the human body, including the development of the foetus in the womb.

Ayurvedic have been translated into Greek and Arabic, and so became part of the foundation for modern Western medicine.

From its earliest known roots over 5000 years ago, Ayurveda has spread throughout the world.
