What is Ayurveda?

Introduction to ayurveda

What is Ayurveda?

And How Can It Help You?

Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine in the world.

Tracing its origins to ancient India, Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health and wellness that seeks to balance body, mind and soul.

Like astrology, Ayurveda recognizes the subtle patterns which structure all life forms. Based on the idea of maintaining balance, Ayurveda can help you to understand your own body and temperament in the same way that knowing your birth chart can do.

The word Ayurveda means “Science of Life” and reflects the simple idea that the laws which govern nature and the cosmos also operate within humans. This means every aspect of daily life can contribute to overall health. Conversely, this also means that we can become unbalanced when we do not follow a lifestyle that is best suited to us

We Are Each Unique

The jewel of Ayurveda is its’ recognition that every person is an individual, and every individual has their own path to optimal health.

To understand what this path looks like for you, you need to understand your constitution or body type.

Contemporary medicine is starting to come to the same conclusion, as we recognize that there is no such thing as one diet, exercise or lifestyle choice that is best for all.

Knowing your constitution can be of great benefit to you all your life as you are then able to adapt your wellness choices to align with your individual temperament – leading to good health.

A great example of this is the raw food diet. Some of us can do quite well eating mostly uncooked plant matter. But many of us cannot.

Your temperament will show whether raw foods and juices are beneficial to you, or if they can in fact create further imbalances in your digestive health

Your Food is Your Medicine

Another fundamental idea within the Ayurvedic approach to life is the understanding that what we eat has the most significant impact upon our state of health as well as upon our mind

Ayurveda has developed an extremely sophisticated understanding of the digestive system and its relationship to all other vital body systems, including immunity, nerve function and cardio-vascular health.

It is entirely possible that the ancient physicians of India recognized the role and importance of the human microbiome, thousand of years before it was discovered in the West

Recent developments in Western medicine are confirming what Ayurveda has known all along. Every system in your body is affected by what you eat.

Therefore, following the diet that is best suited to your constitution is not only best on a daily level, but can also have enormous life-long benefits

Ancient Wisdom For Modern Lives

Through observing subtle forces in the natural world, Ayurvedic physicians developed a profound system of medicine based on thousands of years of practical application.

Ayurvedic scholars were the first to conduct detailed studies of anatomy, perform complex surgeries and understand the mechanics of the human body, including the development of the foetus in the womb.

Ayurvedic have been translated into Greek and Arabic, and so became part of the foundation for modern Western medicine.

From its earliest known roots over 5000 years ago, Ayurveda has spread throughout the world.

Today, Ayurveda is being rediscovered.

Many of its fundamental teachings are now being proven through standardized trials and clinical research, offering safe yet powerful ways to bring the body back to its own natural state of wellness.

What is a Moon Sign

What does the Moon Sign mean?

The Moon Sign in astrology describes the instinctive and emotional part of your nature. It reveals your innate reactions, and what you need to feel comfortable or secure. Your Moon Sign illuminates your emotional, genetic and intuitive makeup. This will help you understand your needs and how to have them met.

It’s really important to know that whilst your Sun Sign describes qualities you are learning to develop and become, your Moon Sign shows what you already are.

We can think of The Moon therefore as the support actor, for she is the one who fills out the script and makes it realistic and believable. Equally as important in terms of your overall personality, together the Sun and Moon combine to drive much of your unique personality.

The Moon describes your usual responses, the bottom-line position to which you fall back as you make your way through the world. It is most common for us to behave more like our Moon sign when we are young, and then as we grow the strengths of our Sun sign start to emerge

What Is A Birth Chart?

Astrology Birth chart

The Mechanics of The Chart

Your birth chart (or natal chart) is a map of the heaven’s, relative to the time and place that you were born.  This map shows areas of strength and opportunity, as well as weakness and challenge. Your birth chart is a powerful tool which can also show how things are likely to unfold through time, as well as what is happening for you at the moment.

How Does It work?

Let’s have a look at a chart to get a sense of what all the lines and symbols mean.

The wheel running around the outside represents the circle of The Zodiac, which allows us to position exactly in the sky where each planet was when you were born. The Zodiac is an imaginary band that is projected out into space from Earth. It is a wonderful tool, because it allows us to know where all the bodies in our solar system are, relative to us.

Astrologers use the chart to create a snapshot of the moment you draw your first breath, mapping the position of the planets back down to earth to make it exactly relative to the time and place of your birth. This then becomes your unique map, or blueprint, and can guide you throughout your life. READ MORE >>
