Astrological Influences 2023

We take a look at some of the most important astrological influences for 2023 and how you can make the most of them (Part 1. )

Enjoy the overview but remember the only way to know how the cosmos is really affecting you is to work with your birth chart or consult a professional astrologer.

Keep reading then look out for Part Two with more about the astrology influences for 2023

A New Jupiter Cycle Kicks Off

One of the bigger generational patterns to shift gear in 2023 is the journey of Jupiter through Aries and then Taurus. Because Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, when Jupiter transits here (once every 12 years) we can think of it as the step up to the next level in an evolving cycle.

Now, to be clear – Jupiter entered Aries in May 2022. But then it zipped backwards into Pisces to complete the previous cycle. This year is the true fresh start as Jupiter begins the year in Aries before gracing Taurus from May 2023. This is the first full “official” year of the next phase of the cosmic cycle.

Imagine a helix or spiral, continually progressing through a process of evolution. Just like DNA, we evolve through circular patterns that move away from their origin point.

Astrology is a science of symbols. Amongst many other things, Jupiter is associated with medicine, healing and the medical profession. In fact, the Rx symbol you often see outside pharmacies used to be written on all doctor’s prescriptions. It comes from the Latin “recipio”, meaning to take back or receive.

But in fact, this symbol was the Roman symbol for Jupiter himself, invoking the influence or protection of the ancient God. Jupiter’s symbol was placed on all potions and prescriptions as a means of amplifying their potency. To call upon Jupiter is to invoke the highest qualities of the divine.

So when Jupiter enters a new level of expression, a new era can emerge. This is particularly true in terms of medicine, which has seen huge advances throughout 2022. This year, we put mass vaccinations based on mRNA technologies to the test, learnt how to live with a novel coronavirus whilst exponentially increasing our understanding of how viruses work.

The parallels to 12 years ago are quite astounding. At the start of the last Jupiter journey through Aries (2010-2011) major breakthroughs were made in recombinant technologies that didn’t reach their full potential until the past two or so years.

We learnt how to boost our immune system with DNA primers, work on a universal flu vaccine took major leaps forward and researchers learnt that the HIV virus (a nasty beast that in the end helped us overcome Covid particularly well) could be held at bay through antiretroviral medications. All these insights were fundamental in helping the scientific community generate both treatments and vaccines for Covid variants in lightening speed

This means there’s a very good chance that 2023 will see the emergence of a highly successful universal vaccine for coronavirus that will also translate into other viral species.

Our understanding of antiviral technologies has accelerated beyond anyone’s imagination. Soon we will see benefits that go far beyond treating illness, into agriculture, animal husbandry and dealing with the dramatic effects of climate change.

Your Mental Health Is Mirrored In The Planets

So if you’re reading this you probably already know – the state of mind you bring to your everyday reality is in many ways mirrored by the position of the planets and stars.

This is true for the day you were born, and is also true for each day of your life. The implications here are mind-boggling… but we won’t get stuck on that!

What is important to know in 2023 is that there is an epidemic of mental ill health sweeping our world, brought on by many complex factors including social change, societal upheaval, eating  too much (any) processed foods and/or synthetic chemicals which have infiltrated our biosphere. Whooaaahh that’s a lot to digest :(((((!

The question is – what if anything can you do about it?

The cosmos has always offered us simple yet effective tools.

Staying aware of the lunar cycles that infiltrate every dimension of our lives is useful. A great way to stay connected with nature and manage your mental health is to tune into these lunar cycles and make the most of what they can offer you.

This doesn’t need to be complicated or dramatic. Don’t get stuck on what every Full Moon means. That will only make you more anxious!

Instead, realise that the Full Moon is part of a natural, organic flow. It brings light and illumination to the darkness that can help us find our way.

If you’re open to the idea, you can let it do the same for you.

Each Full Moon this year spend some time doing something in a very conscious way that helps you feel better about yourself.

Light a candle. Buy yourself some flowers. Go out of your way to make someone else feel loved. All these little rituals add up to a lot when you do them on a monthly basis.

The New Moon is great for tuning in. Use these times of the month for introspection, journalling and deep meditation. Take a walk and put down the EarPods. Listen to what there is to hear.

You can help yourself find balance by bringing in more routine. Not rigid, dogmatic, up-by-5 kinda stuff. Routine can be a natural response to the rhythms of life that happens in a structured and yet spontaneous way.

At the end of the day, lunar cycles guide us and help us find our place within the Universal Mystery of which we are all an essential part.

2023 gives you an extra special chance to get connected with the cosmos. Because of a shift in the lunar nodes, there will be eclipses in four different signs this year: a solar eclipse in Aries around April 20, a lunar eclipse in Scorpio around May 5, a solar eclipse in Libra around October 14, and lastly a lunar eclipse in Taurus happening October 28.

You can mark these dates in advance to do something really special for your mental health.

Totalitarian Regimes or Total Disruption

Another major factor coming to play in 2023 is the entrance of Pluto into Aquarius. This is BIG

Every time Pluto enters a new sign we see a paradigm shift.

The thing to focus on here is that Aquarius (and Capricorn) are both Saturn-ruled signs. So whilst Pluto transitions out of Capricorn this year (not done until the start of 2024) it starts to trigger Aquarius, which continues the emphasis on Saturnian themes.

Capricorn symbolises big business/banking, national infrastructures, governments and traditional ideas of hierarchy and organization. In 2008, when Pluto first entered Capricorn, the global financial crisis  was set in motion, which eventually lead to the transformation of global banking systems (more on that in Part Two)

Aquarius symbolises regimes, totalitarianism, political ideologies, collective endeavours, technology, disruption and radical change. We are in a year when crazy things could easily happen, especially when it comes to shifting power dynamics across the world.

Will we see the successful emergence of truly global dictatorships or will we see a total devolution of systems of governance upon which capitalism is based? Will citizens held back by repressive regimes rise up against those who have denied them their individual rights? Will those who engage in brutal wars or mass deception be brought undone?

This is the year when radical disruption can happen – when planetary forces align with the need to reshape our world. There are likely to be some major world events that change the course of history. The urge for liberation collides with the dynamics of social control.

In Australia at least, a Voice To Parliament for Indigenous Australians will be the start of a new way of relating to the world around us that can reshape so much past injustice.

We all know that the climate crisis is upon us. We can’t afford to make the same mistakes we made in the past anymore, and will also begin to see massive progress here.

So –  as an “Alert But Not Alarmed” citizen of the world, what can you do to make sure we don’t slide down into the abyss of total oblivion?

Make better food choices, consume less, focus on regeneration and demand better technologies based on sustainable models of growth.

If most of us can do that then we stand a very, very good chance of setting in motion a chain of events that will eventually help the whole world.

Good or Bad Aspects in Astrology?

Good or Bad Aspects in Astrology?

One question I’m always asked as a professional astrologer is if a certain aspect in a chart is “good” or “bad”? Whilst understandably disconcerting, the idea that there are good or bad patterns in a birth chart is a hang-up from the murky old days of astrology when life was understood in more absolute terms, and demons lurked behind many doors.
